Name: Jehan Ara
Home Town:
Liaquatabad, Karachi
Business:
Embroidery & Zari work
Loan:
Rs. 15,000

Ms. Jehan Ara a very energetic and enterprising lady briefed us about her business set-up.
She employs 6 persons to run her workshop which specializes in embroidery and zari work for men’s kurtas, kameezes and sherwanis. Besides the 6 persons who work for her, Jehan Ara gets help from her children. Her 2 sons along with learning the trade, provide the much needed support. The oldest of her three daughters is married and her son-in-law is in the same business as she is and has his own workshop. Combined, the two workshops generate a lot of business.

Jehan Ara does not use her own material. This is provided by the shops or the person who wants the embroidery or tailoring done. Once in a while she buys material, makes ladies or mens shalwar kameezes , has these embroidered and sells them to the shops. She feels there is good money in this as well.

Jehan Ara’s place of residence-cum-workshop is near the Liaquatabad Dak Khana with Tameer Branch close at hand. Her loan of Rs.15,000/- was sanctioned in March 2007. She used the money to buy material to make ladies and mens garments with embroidery and zari work and sold the entire lot to selected shops on Tariq Road. She made a very good profit, much more than the principal loan amount and is very happy and proud of this accomplishment.
