NARGIS SALEEM runs two businesses out of her home in Korangi - she stitches children’s school uniforms and teaches sewing to a group of 13 students. Once these students learn sewing, they go on to become her employees. She has a diploma in sewing and has run this business for the last 8 years. Nargis took a loan of Rs 30,000 from Tameer in September 2006 in order to buy raw material and 4 sewing machines. “Since I took the loan there is no tension in my life. I borrowed Rs 30,000 and turned a Rs 15,000 profit last month.” With her increased earnings, Nargis helped her son to open up a small grocery store near their home, in return for which he pays her Rs 100 a month. She lives with her husband and four children in Korangi.
